My Dad

My Dad

Home of the black stuff

Final Walk

So I’ve been really quiet of late, however with a few hours off work I took the opportunity to pop into “the home of the black stuff” to visit my Dad.

My Dad is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, quirky intelligent…..guarantee if you have a question about anything he’ll have the answer.

My Dad has been working in Guinness’s for the last 35 years, his father worked there before him so there’s some family history behind that white gate on St James street. In that 35 years he has been a postman, power station operator (Homer Simpson), fireman and now his final job, brewer. Myself and my sisters have all grown up being proud of our Dad working in Guinness’s, anybody ever asked us we always bent the ear off them telling them all about our Dad.

I say his final job because you see, he’s talking early retirement. After 35 years he feels the time has come that he leaves St James’s Gate. When I visited I asked him would he miss it, after all it would be hard not to miss something that you’ve been doing for the last 35 years, his answer was that he’ll miss his friends but he’s not too sure about the work just yet!

So next time you raise a pint of the black stuff just remember……..my Dad made that!
